Detention Center Overview
The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office Detention Center is the parish's primary jail and correctional center. PPSO lists the facility at 16801 Hwy 15, Davant, LA 70046. Louisiana DPS&C lists a local jail address variant at 110 Prison Rd., Braithwaite, LA 70040. Research indicates those address variants refer to the same large Highway 15 jail complex in the Davant and Braithwaite area, not two separate parish jails.
PPSO says the correctional center opened on February 11, 2015 and was built more than 18 feet in the air inside the federal hurricane-protection levee system. That detail is important in Plaquemines Parish because the parish is long, low-lying, and split by river and coastal access routes. Any visit, professional appointment, or records trip should be planned around the posted visitor notice, road conditions, storm alerts, and the difference between the jail complex and the sheriff's administrative office in Belle Chasse.
The PPSO Corrections page shows the Detention Center's address, capacity statement, phone numbers, mail rules, and visitor warning.
The Corrections page is the strongest local source for jail-specific operating details because it is published by the agency that runs the facility.
Detention Center Capacity
PPSO describes the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office Detention Center as an 800-bed correctional center. Vera and other capacity references commonly list 871 adult beds. The difference should be presented as a source difference, not as a current head-count conflict. No official current daily population for the jail was located in the PPSO or DOC sources reviewed.
The facility holds adult men and women in local custody. That can include pretrial defendants, people in trial, local sentenced inmates, trustees, and people connected to DOC or transitional work placement when assigned under the appropriate authority.
Look Up Detention Center Inmates
For current parish jail custody, use the official Plaquemines Parish Jail Roster. The inspected public table showed a VINE/LAVNS icon, name, date of birth, race, and sex. It did not show charges, bond, mugshots, housing, booking time, or release date in the visible row extraction. For that reason, the roster should be treated as a current custody starting point, then followed by phone or records-request channels when a full booking record is needed.
- Open the LAVNS jail roster from PPSO's website or the direct roster link.
- Search visually or use browser find for the surname because the extracted roster appeared as an alphabetical table.
- Confirm identity with date of birth, race, and sex before relying on a row.
- Use the VINE/LAVNS icon for notification registration when a matching row appears.
- Call Intake and Booking or Main Control if the person is new, missing, transferred, or held under another authority.
If the person has been sentenced to Louisiana state custody, use VINELink Louisiana or DOC locator channels. If the person is federally sentenced, use the BOP inmate locator. Immigration custody is checked through ICE ODLS.
Detention Center Address
The jail information numbers are separate from the PPSO administrative headquarters in Belle Chasse. Use the detention center numbers for booking, custody, main-control, and facility entry questions.

Visiting Detention Center Inmates
PPSO posts a current warning that no outside visitors are allowed into the Correctional Center at this time. No official in-person schedule, video-visit vendor, remote-visit fee, visit length, or public dress code was found in the PPSO pages reviewed. The safest instruction is to call before any visit attempt, even if an older source suggests visiting hours.
| Visit Type | Published Schedule | Official Note |
|---|---|---|
| Public in-person visits | Not published | PPSO says no outside visitors are allowed at this time. |
| Attorney or professional visits | Not published | Call Main Control before travel or scheduling. |
| Video visits | No official vendor found | Do not assume remote access is available without facility confirmation. |
| TWP visits | Separate confirmation needed | Call the transitional work program numbers. |
Detention Center Mail
PPSO publishes jail mail rules for people held at the Detention Center. Mail should be addressed to the inmate by name, PPSO number, and dorm. The mailing address is not the same as the physical Highway 15 address.
| Service | Published Detail |
|---|---|
| Mail Address | Plaquemines Parish Detention Center, inmate name / inmate PPSO number / dorm, P.O. Box 67, Pointe-a-la-Hache, LA 70082 |
| Books and magazines | PPSO says they are not accepted or ordered from outside the Detention Center and are ordered through commissary once a month. |
| Newspapers | No longer accepted as of August 1, 2020. |
| Money deposit | No official local vendor or fee table was located. Call the jail before depositing funds. |
Mail rules prohibit contraband, tape on envelopes, binder paper protectors, stamps, blank pages, cash, personal checks, hard books, stickers, electronic cards, pop-up cards, music cards, nonstandard cards, outside-purchased items, and staples.
Detention Center Booking
A typical Plaquemines Parish arrest path starts with an arrest by PPSO, another local agency, state police, or another authority. The person is transported to the Detention Center, processed through intake, identified, screened, photographed or fingerprinted as applicable, entered with charges or holds, classified, and housed. PPSO does not publish a full booking policy, so the confirmed local facts are the booking desk numbers, facility address, roster path, and public-records process.
Louisiana C.Cr.P. art. 230.1 requires the person in custody to be brought promptly before a judge for appointment of counsel, generally within 72 hours of arrest excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays. Bond may be set or reviewed at that appearance. A new arrest may not appear on the roster right away while booking data is still being entered.
Detention Center Programs
PPSO says all trustees are housed at the Correctional Center. Trustees may be assigned to inmate labor crews that work with nonprofit organizations throughout Plaquemines Parish. The same jail complex is also linked to the Plaquemines Parish Transitional Work Program, which is a separate DOC-recognized reentry or work-release custody page.
The Louisiana DPS&C Plaquemines Parish local jail listing gives state directory context for the local jail, sheriff, DA, and clerk.
DOC directory entries are useful for confirming state-recognized contacts, but PPSO remains the local jail operator for Detention Center custody questions.
Note: Confirm custody, visitor access, and mailing rules with the Detention Center before driving to the Highway 15 complex.
